Makeup Revolution SophX Extra Spice Palette (Review + Swatches)

Yes, I ordered another Soph product, I can't help myself the collaborations are just such good quality and they are worth the money. Recently Makeup Revolution have come out with a few collaborations with Youtubers such as Carmi Mua and Tammi however I wasn't really intrigued into purchasing those palettes especially since I had just spent around €50 on the Modern Renaissance Palette (Review Coming Soon).

What's different from the Original SophX Palette to the Extra Spice Palette?

In my opinion there are very slight similarities so getting the second palette will not a waste of your money however this time there are 18 shades instead of 24 and this is because a number of people complained that they lost the plastic insert with the shade names, so by reducing the number of shades they were able to print the shade names on to the palette itself. However 18 shades for €12.99 I would still say that's a bargain.

The packaging has varied a little, the base and the inside of the original palette are still the same but the the top and the box are a shiny copper colour to - in my opinion- fit in with the other collaborations they have done which have all been the same variation of colours.

There are several new shades, which together are meant to be the "extra spice" in your makeup collection. From my personal observation there are maybe 3 shades which are similair to the first.

The shades again are mix of mattes and shimmers.

(Shades are listed from left to right for each row, same as the swatches)

Going through the shades; the first shade is Everyday and Soph has mentioned that it is meant to be a shade that you were everyday. It is a shimmer and it is perfect to be used as a transition shade or as an inner corner highlight. The colour is pink-purple shimmer and applied it appears a bit on the rose gold side.

Running Late which is a matte carrot orange shade.

Infinity, a silver metallic shade and when swatched it appears to have silver micro glitter.

Cheesecake a matte chestnut brown shade.

Cookie Dough a matte soft brown shade, similar to Iced Coffee from the SophX palette.

Dreams a warm rosie champagne shimmer shade.

Vitamin C which is a matte bright canary yellow, however when swatched it is not as pigmented as it appears in the palette. When applying this with a brush there is some kickback and it takes a few swipes to intensify it.

Sweet N Sour a matte electronic orange shade.

Twenty One a matte cerise pink shade which is very pigmented and bright.

Romance a shimmery burgundy shade with a pink shift, slightly similar to

Enchanted a matte deep purple shade.

Lakes a matte dark olive green shade.

Brownies which is a matte deep brown shade.

Chocolate Orange a warm matte chocolatey orange brown shade.

Mulled Wine a matte red violet shade.

LA Sun a bright golden yellow shimmer, one of my favourite shades from the palette and amazing pigmentation.

Aurora a shimmery khaki green shade.

Reputation a matte charcoal black shade, similar as to Nightmare from the SophX palette.

I haven't had a lot of time to play around with this palette but I did successfully create a beautiful sunset eye with the shades Pancakes (from the SophX Palette), Cookie Dough, Running Late in the crease, Sweet N Sour in the outer corner, added a tough of Twenty One to Sweet N Sour with Vitamin C in the centre and Fairy Lights (Soph X) as inner corner highlight. I wore the look for a whole day and topped the look up with LA Sun for a night out, so all in all the shadows lasted for well over 14hrs.

The deeper shades such as Lake, Mulled Wine and Enchanted I find them more suitable for evening looks and I find are a bit more wearable in during winter months, as they are the darker, cool toned side and in the summer months I prefer to wear bright warm tone shades such as Sweet N Sour, Twenty One and Running Late.

Some of the mattes do have some fallout and have to be tapped off the brush before applying, which personally I did not have to do with the Soph X Palette as well as for some colours to really pop you have to apply twice such as Vitamin C.

All in all, the shades are all amazing and the small issues can be worked around, the shadows last for long hours and feel light on the eyes. The palette is cruelty free and vegan. Most of the shades are wearable and others do allow for experimentation without being too out there. I did read some reviews from some people who have said that on darker skin tones some shades (such as Vitamin C) since they are not that pigmented when applied they have used as transitioned shades.

I would highly recommend this palette, it truly is the "Extra Spice" to one's makeup collection.
